In the larger sense this song is about how much I love my wife, but the sub plot this time is that I have been a person that has traveled away a lot throughout the history of our relationship and I seem to spend an incomprehensible amount of time on some sort of transport wishing I wasn't there. I think that sucks and this song is about that sucking.
lyrics
Verse 1:
I’m tired of waiting in a queue to get to a queue,
Pushing through tourists and hens and stags,
Fighting my way to you,
Staring at neon lights and hearing multilingual words,
Motorways and offices and terminals and hotels
Pre Chorus:
It’s all just cardboard backdrops when you’re not there,
I just don’t wanna be here,
If I can’t be with you then fuck it I don’t wanna be anywhere
Chorus:
I wish that you could be by my side,
But I’m so damn sick of these goddamn miles
And I will have you here by my side
And I’ll conquer every one of these goddamn miles
Verse 2:
Wasted hours on the underground will I ever get off this train,
I got a hundred thousand stops to go and a trudge home in the rain,
My lower body’s aching with the effort of this uphill climb,
But it’ll be worth every ache and pain to be holding you in my arms
Pre Chorus:
It’s all just cardboard backdrops when you’re not here but fuck it I’m damn close
A minute more and a lifetime score I made it I made it home
Chorus:
I wish that you could be by my side,
But I’m so damn sick of these goddamn miles
And I will have you here by my side
And I’ll conquer every one of these goddamn mile
